On Saturday 11 September 2010 members of the Fife Branch will once again be in attendance at the Leuchars Airshow where we will operate a Tombola Stall to raise funds for Service Charities. This will be our fourth visit to the Airshow where in previous years we have managed to raise funds totalling approx £1000.00 per visit.
Our visit is normally organised by a team of 'volunteers' consisting of George Kyle, Bill Donaldson, Russ Cameron assisted by Margaret Donaldson and Anne Kyle. using George's motorhome as a base. The day begins with a 0530 hrs departure to Leuchars, in order to reach the allocated pitch by 0600 hrs, having initially to pass through a security check and search before being allowed access to the base. On reaching the pitch its all hands to the pumps as we are required set up and be ready to go by 0800 hrs, when members of the unsuspecting public start to arrive and are subjected to much cagouling and gentle persuasion by the 'Maroon Machine' to take part in the Tombola.
Our Tombola consists mainly of an assortment of cuddly toys, teddy bears and soft toys, gathered throughout the year by Margaret Donaldson. Many other items including toys, food stuffs, ornaments, wine, whisky, beer etc also form part of the Tombola and we offer for sale Regimental Caps, T shirts, books and other bits and pieces.
Our stall usually attracts former members of the Regiment who are visiting the Airshow, so there is an obvious opportunity to recruit new members to the Branch.
All in all it is a long but very enjoyable day.
To members of the Fife Branch - the Leuchars Team now require items for the Tombola, which must be new and unused.
To members of all other Branches - if you are attending the Airshow, please stop bye
and say hello !
